Studies indicate that 10%-30% of the heated or cooled air is lost along
with the money spent to heat or cool that air through leaky ducts. Accordingly, duct air leakage testing is strongly recommended.

Leakage test is done by using a duct leakage tester which consists of a calibrated fan for measuring an air flow rate and a pressure sensing device to measure the pressure created by the fan flow. Duct air leakage testing is implemented through:

• Identifying ductwork section to be tested – Calculated surface area
• Sealing ductwork
• Pressurizing ductwork to specified level
• Measuring flow required to maintain duct pressure
• Comparing to standards and specifications
